GPL Photonics Lab Leadship

Dr. Wei Li is a professor and director of GPL Photonics Laboratory at Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He completed his postdoctoral training at Stanford University. He received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and his BS from Harbin Institute of Technology. His research interests include nanophotonics, thermal photonics, light-matter interactions, and their applications in next-generation energy and information technologies. His work has been published in journals including Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Review Materials, Nature Communications, Nature Materials, Science, Joule, Nano Letters, PRL, Light: Science & Applications. His research has been extensively featured by news media worldwide, including Phys.org, Science Daily, Science Beta, IEEE Spectrum, Nature Materials, CE& News, Science, Science News, BBC.

Chunlei Guo is the Founding Director of GPL and served as the Director from 2016-2020. His research is in the area of femtosecond laser-matter interactions at high intensities. He is also a professor in The Institute of Optics at University of Rochester. His research at Rochester led to the discoveries of the so-called Black and Colored Metals, which may find a broad range of technological applications and have been covered extensively by the media.

Dr. Yuhong Bai is the Founding Vice-Director of GPL. Prof. Bai is also the director of Light Center of CIOMP and the managing director of journals “Light: Science & Applications” and “Optics and Precision Engineering”. She devotes to develop and lead the idea of the internationalization of the journals. The “Light: Science & Applications” was an international optics journal, launched in 2012 cooperating with Nature Publisher. It was indexed by SCI and Scopus database only one year later, and received an impact factor 14.603 in 2015, ranked the second in all optical journals and the first in all Chinese journals.
